Documentary Post-Production Update: September 26th

Carpe Scratch VO session

Over the last few months, we’ve been hard at work finishing up the cut of the feature documentary and submitting to various film festivals around the world.  The film has undergone many iterations in order to blend the two narratives: the story of my father’s descent into the darkness of Alzheimer’s and my father-in-law’s ascent to the summit of Kilimanjaro.  Our story is unique in the way it tracks both of my fathers’ experience with aging, so we wanted to make sure we were delivering these dual narratives in a compelling way.

Today we added a new voiceover track and included many of these changes.  Eric and Ziv over at 48 Windows in Santa Monica are really great to deal with and it’s a comfortable recording environment.  We also learned it’s very difficult to stump Eric on his guitar-making trivia.  Before laying down this “scratch track”, we had so many variations of voiceover and they were very inconsistent.  It was amazing to hear the difference a well-recorded and consistent voice track makes when you’re watching the film.
